} While we patiently wait for the Tsunami to hit Hawaii,

Can you identify what’s going on in this picture?

Hint: it’s one of the ickiest phenomenon in my area during the winter.

Very close! They’re actually FLEAS! Snow fleas. Everywhere you look the pristine white snow is sprinkled with little black specks. It makes letting the dog out impossible. They jump all over as soon as you walk out the door.

Snow fleas?… fleas exisit that can bear so much cold? Wow, I learn something new every day! Why are they there in the snow? are they like worms coming to the surface in the garden after rain? how do you get rid of them? yukky, poor dog, and poor you.

Yep, snow fleas. They come out of the ground on warm winter days, although, how they get out I couldn’t tell you because the ground here is covered in about 3 feet of hard snow. They’re blue! Very disgusting, you can Wiki them here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snow_flea. There’s MILLIONS of them. Thankfully, they only last a couple of days.

FLEAS! What in the world?! Bleck bleck bleck. BLECK. I hate flees! When I was maybe 8 or 9 my dog got flees. Except for some reason they spread. And spread. And SPREAD. They were in the beds, the couch, the carpet, the LAWN for Christ sake. We bombed our house, which was maybe 800sq ft, FOUR times trying to get rid of them. You’re only suppoed to use one “bomb” for an area of that size, so that’s what we tried the first time. That didn’t do it, the flees were so engrained into the house that the populations under the beds survived and attacked us in FORCE when we came back in the house. I mean my legs were BLACK. Disgusting. Eventually we had to use about 6 bombs I think. Pointing them under the beds and we put them so that there was one for every two rooms. It was terrible. I hate flees.

Oh my, that’s awful! I can’t imagine living with fleas like that, your poor legs! Here we go with the heebie-jeebies again. These fleas are everywhere you look, all of the white is speckled with fleas. It’s very bizarre to see. My youngest daughter actually attracts fleas, she has to spray down her legs before she can go off the deck, or wear pants through the summer, they just swarm her.

Yea it was awful. We had to spend about a month living with one of my mom’s friends while the house was being fumigated.
My sister is the same way with mosquitoes. During the summer evenings she has to coat herself in insect repellants. Wearing extra clothing doesn’t help; they’ll even go through her jeans to get at her. It’s ridiculous. She’ll come back in the house and have single bites larger than a half dollar coin.

Wait til I write about black-fly season…even worse then the fleas! The good thing is, where we live, in the summer there are swarms of dragonflies, HUGE ones. We also have bat houses on the property, and plenty of bird houses, so between the dragonflies, the bats and the birds, we have our own little bug battling army. My daughter Sara is like your sister, she’s allergic to mosquito bites, they swell up on her too and itch for ages.

Willowbatel, hey? am I your long lost sister? Mosquitoes think I’m the tastiest thing in the universe too, I’m allergic to them to boot so we ended up putting screens though the door and windows of our house so that I wasn’t being terrorised and traumatised by open windows at night and could get a decent nights sleep. The bites are massive, fire-engine red and itch for almost a week, your Sister has my greatest sympathy, these little nasties are truely nasty.

I very rarely get bit by anything, which is nice. I might get maybe 5 bites a year total. I find the “buzz in your face” thing more annoying then anything else. I feel great sympathy for all of you!

hahaha, maybe. Her symptoms are very similar to yours. I’ll be standing right next to her all night and only get maybe one bite and she’ll have 15.
I hate that buzzing noise! And the tickling of them landing on you. That’s annoying as all get out.
